I went to my first big protest, the Together March with my friend Rosalind, not long after starting Protest in Print. If I’m honest, that project came from a need to feel part of something bigger, to connect with people who see the world the way I do.
There’s been a lot of debate about numbers from 50,000 or half a million, but standing there, it felt like the latter. The energy was powerful. Everywhere I looked there were people who cared, who showed up, who believed in something better.
At 45, I felt late to it all. I’ve spent years feeling helpless, watching figures like Trump and Farage rise through division and fear. It can make you feel small, like nothing you do matters.
But something shifted, maybe I can make a difference with the skills i have. Being surrounded by like-minded people was grounding and energising. For the first time in a long time, I felt connected and maybe I can make a difference.
I don’t have all the answers, but I do have some skills, some time, and a voice. Protest in Print is my way of using them.
This is just the beginning.
